Microsoft Safety Scanner: A Simple To Use Portable Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware Desktop App
Microsoft Safety Scanner is a direct sibling of Microsoft Security Essentials that everyone knows and many, if not most Windows OS users have installed. The difference is that Microsoft Safety Scanner is a cut down version of MSE that also happen to be a portable app with security definitions good for 10 days. Meaning it must be replaced every periodically to stay up to date.
The kind of tool good to have in a USB drive for when you are at a publicly accessible PC you want to check before using or you got handed over an already presumably infected PC.
When you download it and run it, it would like this:
1.- If you have UAC in high – and you should – It will then generate an UAC notice.
2.- MSS App Windows will the show the End User License Agreement you must accept right away.
3.- MSS Description Notice
4.- MSS Scan Type Selection.
You should always select a full scan if you got the time. Otherwise the Quick Scan + A Custom Scan for whatever you feel doubt does the trick.
5.- MSS Scan Running
- A Quick Scan depending on your PC specs and HDD/SSD occupied storage can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes on average
- A Full Scan depending on you computer specs and HDD/SSD occupied storage can take from 1 hour to 5 hours on average
- A Custom Scan depending on your computer specs and HDD/SDD occupied storage can take from less than 1 minute to 15 minutes on average depending the size and type of the file or folder you want to scan.
6.- MSS Scan Results
- If it finds any infected files it will list what the files are, and ask you what you want to do. Sometimes it will also ask you if it can send info on those bad files to Microsoft.
- If it don’t find anything it will display the following image:
Microsoft Safety Scanner is a really handy and simple to use Portable Anti-Virus Desktop App to get for when needed. After having used it in several infected PC, I can say it works as advertised, It don’t consumes too much resources and it can be used from Windows XP SP3 up to Windows 8.1 on both 32 or 64 bit versions.
